WestConnex headphones limiting compensation and accountability for impacted residents

In Budget Estimates last week, Abigail asked about the bizarre move by WestConnex to send noise-cancelling headphones and respite deeds to impacted residents. These deeds limit the ability of residents to seek further compensation and talk to media about the damage caused to their homes.

Preventing Cruelty to Animals

Today Abigail voted in support of a successful motion to amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Bill that would see greater protection for animals through stronger enforcement and punishment measures including mandatory animal bans for people convicted of particularly serious crimes against animals.

Opposing Offshore Drilling for Oil and Gas

Today Abigail moved a motion recognising the strong community opposition to offshore drilling for oil and gas in NSW, calling on the NSW Government to oppose the renewal of Advent Energy's Petroleum Exploration Permit [PEP11] and to prevent the construction or installation of any infrastructure related to PEP-11 drilling or offshore exploration in New South Wales.

Greens Grill GWIC Authorities on Greyhound Welfare

In this week's committee hearing for Inquiry into the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (GWIC), Abigail grilled GWIC authorities on greyhound welfare, raising issues such as rates of greyhound euthanasia in the industry and gaps in the whole-of-life tracking system.

Support a future for Bylong

The potential threat of a new coal mine can see once thriving-communities gutted. Local residents face years of campaigning and fighting to protect their local area, while others are driven out of the area for fear of the environmental impact coal mining will have on air and water quality, local amenities and livelihoods. The NSW Court of Appeal has thankfully rejected KEPCO’s appeal against an earlier refusal to allow it to mine coal in the Bylong Valley. Now it’s time for land in the Bylong Valley to be given back to the community so they can have a chance to regrow.
