Deputy Premier won’t step in to protect Central Coast drinking water from mining contamination

This morning in budget estimates Greens NSW upper house MP and spokesperson for Mining and the Central Coast, Abigail Boyd, demanded answers from NSW Deputy Premier, and Minister for Regional NSW, Industry & Trade, John Barilaro, as to how his government would ensure the Central Coast water catchment would be protected if the Wallarah 2 coal mine goes ahead.

Power Station Contamination

Backed by newfound information that the NSW Government was liable for potential contamination at numerous coal-fired power stations, Abigail successfully moved that further contracts and documents related to costs be made publicly available.

Inquiry into the Sydenham-Bankstown Line Conversion

A NSW Upper House committee has commenced an inquiry into the planned conversion of the Sydenham-Bankstown Line from heavy rail to metro. The inquiry, chaired by Greens MP Abigail Boyd, will examine decision making in relation to the transport project, including whether alternatives were considered to improve capacity and reduce congestion on that line.

Speaking in support of a manufacturing jobs motion put forward by the Opposition, Abigail today spoke of the short-sightedness of the Government’s continued obsession with coal at the expense of a jobs-rich renewable energy sector.

Reproductive Healthcare Reform Bill 2019

As one of the Bills official co-sponsors, Abigail rose to speak in strong support of reproductive healthcare reform, the rights of women and those with uteresuses and of the need to trust individuals to make decisions about what to do with their own bodies.

Contributions of People with Autism

In recognition of recent ableist comments by media personalities relating to people with autism, today Abigail moved a motion that called on NSW Parliament to recognise the contributions of people with autism to society and to reaffirm it’s recognition that people with disability are to be treated with dignity and respect.
