Ending Planning Discrimination Against Sex Workers

Recognising the ongoing discrimination that sex workers face simply for doing their job, today Abigail secured unanimous support for our motion calling for an end to planning discrimination against sex workers and for local councils to be provided with educational briefings to address the enduring stigma around those in the industry.

Supporting A Just Transition

In light of the news that KORES plans to sell it's majority stake in the Wallarah 2 coal mine, Abigail today stood in parliament to discuss the urgent need to support coal communities as the transition to renewables continues to gather speed.

NSW Labor and Liberal-National Government open the door to Central Coast commercial airport

Last night the NSW Legislative Council passed a Bill, with support from both NSW Labor and the Liberal-National Government, that has left residents unprotected from a large-scale, commercial airport here on the Central Coast.  If it proceeds, the commercial airport will have disastrous consequences for job creation in the Warnervale Employment Zone, the biodiversity of the Porters Creek Wetlands and the amenity and wellbeing of local residents in Jilliby and Warnervale.

Securing Release of ReINVEST Trial Grant Documents

After reports online in relation to the NSW Government funding of the ReINVEST trial program to the sum of $6.9 million, Abigail successfully called for the release of grant documents to continue investigating the basis on which funding has been provided. 

Keep South-West Sydney's Rail Public

Today Abigail called on the Government to keep South-West Sydney's public transport how it is: in public hands. The Government's plan to replace the existing Sydenham to Bankstown T3 line with a privatised Metro Southwest will negatively impact communities in South-West Sydney.

Greens' Led Inquiry Finds Government Has Failed Taxi Drivers

Today the parliamentary committee inquiring into the impact of the 2016 Point to Point Transport reforms released its findings and recommendations, with the revelation that the government has failed to distribute$100 million of the $250 million industry assistance package funded by the public through the Passenger Service Levy. The committee has also recommended that the Government develop and implement a buyback scheme of ordinary taxi licences, allowing licence owners who wish to retire to do so, while also releasing capital that can be used to innovate and effectively compete with rideshare.

The NSW Legislative Council has established a Select Committee to inquire into the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC), and in particular its success and ability to regulate welfare in the greyhound racing industry in New South Wales.
