Celebrating Sex Worker Pride Day

Today in Parliament, Abigail passed a motion in Parliament celebrating Sex Worker Pride Day and the achievements of the global movement fighting for sex worker pride, empowerment and justice and to allow sex workers to share survival and determination stories.

Abigail said:

(1) That this House recognises that Sunday 14 September 2025 was Sex Worker Pride Day, which exists to celebrate the achievements of the global movement fighting for sex worker pride, empowerment and justice, and to allow sex workers to share survival and determination stories.

(2) That this House notes that:

  • sex worker pride extends to all those who are or have been marginalised by criminalisation, discrimination and stigma across the sex worker movement and celebrates the diversity within the community;
  • the global worker-led movement continues to fight every day to challenge laws and policies which isolate and endanger sex workers, organising and mobilising to push for justice and liberation for all;
  • the 2025 Sex Worker Pride Day is the sixth annual day, and was created by the Global Network of Sex Work Projects in 2019 to increase visibility of lived experience and activism of sex workers and empower sex workers to celebrate and feel prideful in the incredible global movement;
  • the sex worker community and movement is diverse, strong and resilient within New South Wales and across the world; and
  • one of the great strengths of the global sex worker movement is the enduring goal of extending solidarity and love to all sex workers everywhere in times of joy and celebration as well as in times of injustice and struggle.

(3) That this House affirms that sex work is work, and all workers deserve to have their rights, dignity and safety respected.

Motion agreed to.
