Today in Parliament, Abigail passed a motion congratulating emerging artist and greyhound advocate Elliott Fox on the launch of his powerful national exhibition Saint Grey, which raises awareness about the cruelty of the greyhound racing industry and honours greyhounds as sentient, soulful beings.
Abigail said:
I move:
-
That this House notes that:
- Elliott Fox, a talented emerging artist and greyhound rescue pawrent of Adam Barker, has launched a global art project to raise awareness about greyhounds as soulful individual beings and draw attention to the commercial greyhound racing gambling industry;
- Elliott is debuting his solo art exhibition across Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne beginning in August 2025, which will showcase over 18 powerful pieces of art including screen-printings, impasto and textured paintings and sculptures;
- the key piece of artwork for Elliott's exhibition Saint Grey, a life-sized mixed-media sculpture of a greyhound with wings, symbolically created using discarded and repurposed plaster, fibreglass, acrylic, gold and feathers;
- this artwork symbolises hope, invoking the concept of a greyhound saint to guide and protect greyhounds through life and death and commemorating greyhounds who have died and crossed the rainbow bridge, with the artwork also drawing on influence from Saint Guinefort, a legendary thirteenth-century French greyhound that received local veneration as a folk saint for saving a child from a snake;
- Elliott's project has amassed considerable local, national and international interest and in-kind support, including support from nine major greyhound charities and advocacy groups including Animal Liberation NSW, Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds, Friends of the Hound and GREY2K USA Worldwide; and
- according to Elliott, his art promises to be more than an artistic display; it is a cultural statement intended to provoke thought and inspire change.
- That this House congratulates Elliott Fox for his success with this ground breaking art exhibition and his advocacy in fighting for a kinder and fairer world for all.
Motion agreed to.
