The world must not look away from Palestine

Today in Parliament, Abigail gave notice of a motion in solidarity with all Palestinians as the genocidal actions of Israel continue amid the current, temporary ceasefire.

Abigail said:

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

(1) That this House notes that:

  • the world the must not look away from Palestine as the genocidal actions of the Israeli occupation continue despite the current temporary ceasefire, with its continued invasion of the illegally occupied West Bank, continued aerial strikes on central and southern Gaza, and obstruction of urgent aid and temporary shelter for displaced and suffering Palestinians, and
  • as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians begin returning to their homeland in northern Gaza, they are returning to homes, schools, hospitals and food distribution points that have been systematically and relentlessly destroyed by Israeli forces.

(2) That this House affirms its unequivocal solidarity with all Palestinians, their fundamental right to return to their homeland and the ongoing fight for Palestinian sovereignty and self-determination.

(3) That this House calls on the Federal Government to:

  • firmly condemn and reject all calls for genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement
of Palestinians, actions which undermine prospects of peace and liberation,
  • immediately cut all military and economic ties with Israel that enable its ongoing illegal
occupation and crimes against international law, until a permanent and lasting ceasefire is
achieved and all those responsible for war crimes are held accountable under international
    law, and
  • commit to provide urgent and ongoing humanitarian aid to Palestinians, including shelter for
displaced Palestinians, medical aid and food.
