NSW workers support axing negative gearing - when will NSW Labor get on board?

Today in Question Time, Abigail grilled the Minister for Housing on whether they are advocating on behalf of NSW citizens at a Federal level to improve housing affordability in our State. Spoiler alert - they are not.

Abigail said:

My question is directed to the Minister for Housing. Recent polls show that the vast majority of workers want the Albanese Government to adopt the longstanding Greens policy of reforming negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions. Just this week, Unions NSW also publicly backed this policy position. What will the Minister be doing on behalf of New South Wales residents to lobby her Federal counterparts to finally get on board with implementing these changes that are so vital to improving housing affordability in New South Wales?

The Hon. ROSE JACKSON (Minister for Housing): I thank the honourable member for her question. I do not doubt her genuine interest in housing policy, and we share a concern in making sure that the housing crisis is addressed. I do not lobby; I take action. I have the incredible privilege of being the housing and homelessness Minister under a government that has made the largest ever investment in this incredibly important portfolio, and I do not waste my precious time by lobbying other levels of government and telling them how to do their job.

Ms Abigail Boyd: ... What is the Minister doing to lobby, or whatever she wants to call it, her Federal counterparts in relation to housing tax concessions?

The Hon. ROSE JACKSON: I again reiterate that I do not see it as a core part of my job to abdicate responsibility for the work we have to do at a State level by meddling in the business of other levels of government. If that was an issue that I wanted to passionately pursue with my precious time in politics, then I would run for Federal Parliament.

Abigail went on to ask the Minister a supplementary question:

Is the Minister telling the people of New South Wales that at Commonwealth ministerial meetings and other forums that only she has access to on behalf of the people of New South Wales she is not advocating for them when it comes to the broader policy settings of the Commonwealth?

The Hon. ROSE JACKSON: ... People should pay attention to what members have to say in the different levels of government. The people of New South Wales are smart enough not to make the mistake of voting for people at a level of government who do not say what they are actually going to do at that particular level of government, or for people who do not put forward specific election commitments for what they are going to do as State parliamentarians and then actually do them. They should not fall for people who want to run commentary on national and international issues in the State Parliament.
