Today in Parliament, Abigail grilled the NSW Treasurer on protections for delivery drivers and gig workers.
Abigail said:
My question without notice is directed to the Treasurer, representing the Minister for Industrial Relations, and Minister for Work Health and Safety. Last week the Treasurer was asked a Dixer by his Labor colleague in relation to what the Government is doing to protect delivery drivers and gig workers in the food delivery and rideshare sectors. The Treasurer's response did not mention the Labor Government's failure to implement its election promise to ensure gig workers are able to access workers compensation entitlements. When will the Government implement these urgently needed reforms?
The Treasurer responded, without actually providing an answer to the question asked, to which Abigail followed up with a supplementary question:
I am loathe to interrupt the Treasurer, because I know he does care about this issue. He has highlighted why the issue is so important, but the original question was when this will happen. I ask the Treasurer to elucidate his answer and tell us when the Government will implement these urgently needed reforms.
