Today in Parliament, Abigail gave notice of a motion marking the second year of the Israeli Government's genocidal campaign in Gaza and called on the Australian Government to end military exports and impose sanctions until Israel halts the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Abigail said:

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

(1) That this House notes that:

we are in the second year of the Israeli Government’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, with at least 42,000 Palestinians having been killed and over 98,000 injured by bombs, bullets and drone strikes;
these figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry do not include the tens of thousands of Palestinians killed and buried under rubble, buried in unmarked graves, or killed because of the destruction of health facilities, food distribution systems and other critical public infrastructure, nor does it include deaths in refugee camps from illness and disease. The real death toll is estimated to be over 186,000, according to a study by the Lancet Group, the world’s most reputable medical journal;
Israel’s manufactured starvation of Palestinians in Gaza has been escalating each day, with the UN World Food Programme now warning that no food aid has entered North Gaza since 1 October 2024 due to all food distribution points having been either destroyed or forced to shut down due to evacuation orders. Food distribution systems in Southern and Central Gaza are also at breaking point, unable to secure critical food and at serious risk of shutting down any day; and
the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory is warning that Israel is continuing to implement a concerted policy to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system, relentlessly and deliberately targeting medical personnel and facilities and restricting permits to leave Gaza for medical treatment.

(2) That this House calls on the Australian Government to end military exports to Israel and impose sanctions on the Israeli Government until such time that Israel ceases all acts of genocide and aggression and ends the illegal occupation of Palestine.
