Call for NSW to Suspend Kangaroo Culling Program

Greens Animal Welfare Spokespersons Abigail Boyd and Mehreen Faruqi call for NSW to suspend kangaroo culling program in light of massive wildlife losses.

Australian Greens Senator for NSW and Animal Welfare Spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi, and Greens NSW Animal Welfare Spokesperson, Abigail Boyd MLC, have called on the NSW Government to follow the the lead of other State Governments and suspend kangaroo culling in the State following massive bushfire wildlife losses.

Senator Faruqi said:

“We are facing a wildlife apocalypse. We know at least a billion animals have been killed and that number will rapidly increase as wildlife face starvation from destroyed ecosystems. Kangaroos are in crisis, the public is donating to save them but the Government is still painting a target on their back.

“The NSW Government needs to get serious about protecting animals and halt kangaroo culling immediately," she concluded.

Abigail Boyd MLC said:

“The only logical and humane thing to do now would be to put an immediate halt on the culling of kangaroos across NSW.

“We call on the NSW Government to follow South Australia and Victoria’s lead and suspend culling until an accurate assessment of remaining kangaroo populations can be undertaken.”
