Audrey Griffin was loved by countless. In her memory, the Central Coast community have demanded action to end gendered violence - because every woman deserves to be safe in their home and on the streets.
Abigail moved:
(1) That this House notes with profound sadness the death of Central Coast local woman Audrey Griffin, and expresses its deepest condolences to Audrey’s family, friends and community.
(2) That this House further notes that:
(a) Audrey was loved by countless in her community, described by many as a strong, compassionate young woman who embraced life with joy, kindness and enthusiasm,
(b) Audrey was found dead in Erina Creek on 23 March 2025. According to police reporting, Audrey’s death was initially not believed to be suspicious, however following a four week murder investigation a 53 year old man was charged with Audrey’s murder,
(c) on Sunday 27 April 2025, hundreds of people marched through the streets of Gosford demanding serious action to end gendered violence, expressing collective outrage at the lack of action and funding from governments a year after the federal government declared the gender-based violence crisis was a national emergency,
(d) local residents who spoke at the rally affirmed that gender-based violence is a preventable pattern, highlighting that the Central Coast continuously ranks amongst the highest regions in NSW when it comes to violence against women, and yet action from governments remains absent, with local frontline services underfunded and targeted prevention efforts missing, and
(e) on Saturday 10 May 2025, the Central Coast community will once again come together to protest against the lack of action to eliminate violence against women and children, rallying at Memorial Park in The Entrance at 2pm. Rallies on this day are being organised across the country by What Were You Wearing Australia and various community groups.
(3) That this House encourages all members in this place to attend a rally near them on Saturday 10 May 2025 in support of targeted action to eliminate violence against women and children.
