Time to talk... Clean Air
No matter who you are or where you live, we all have a fundamental right to breathe clean air. From the Central Coast and the Hunter, to Lithgow, Sydney and beyond, that right should be afforded to each and every community across our state.
But right now, communities across our state are being forced to breathe in toxic emissions pumped out by coal-fired power stations – and suffering from increased rates of serious illnesses like heart disease, lung cancer, and asthma as a result.
NSW has some of the weakest restrictions on toxic emissions in the world. That’s why we’re fighting to make coal-fired power stations in NSW clean up their act, with a bill before parliament to make them do just that.
By installing the available and affordable emission control technology that has long been standard across the United States, Europe and China, this toxic air pollution could easily be reduced by as much as 90%. But big fossil fuel companies would rather you pay the costs of their polluting with your health, rather than them tapping into their enormous profits to pay for vital emission control technology – and the NSW Liberal-National Government lets them get away with it.
